Matthew Hollis was born in Oxford, Ohio in 1972. He earned a B.F.A. in photography from Miami University in 2000 and an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002. For the Last three years Matthew has turned his attention toward photographing Chicago’s diverse and abundant modern dancer community.
Flexibility and spontaneity are so important to Matthew, photographically. So, when he began photographing dancers three years ago, his system made even more sense. “The process of photographing dancers is a dynamic and fluid one”, he says. “The best results come when both the photographer and dancer fully embrace spontaneity”. His work has been exhibited in numerous group shows around Chicago. He currently is teaching at Harold Washington College and the Chicago Photography Center.
